LAWMAKERS WHAT THEY NEED IN THE CLASSROOM. MARGARET JOHNSON HAS THAT STORY FROM MOUNT AIRY. MARGARET: WE ARE IN MOUNT AIRY. TEACHERS TELL ME THEY ARE THANKFUL FOR THE RESOURCES THEY DO HAVE, BUT IMAGINE WHAT THEY COULD DO WITH JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE. WHAT DO YOU THINK WE ARE GOING TO BE INFORMED ABOUT? MARGARET: THEY HAVE 400 CHILDREN IN PRE-K THROUGH SECOND. IT IS A TITLE we SCHOOL WHICH MEANS THAT MAJORITY OF STUDENTS GET FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH. EDUCATORS SAY THEY WANT TO GIVE THESE CHILDREN THE WORLD, AND TO DO THAT, THEY SAY THEY CAN REALLY USE MORE ASSISTANCE IN THE CLASSROOM TO BREAK UP THE CHILDREN INTO SMALL GROUPS. THEY WANT NEWER COMPUTERS AND LAPTOPS. THEY ONLY HAVE 70 FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL. SOME OF THEM ARE 10 YEARS OLD. ONLY THE TEACHER HAS AN IPAD. THEY HAVE SMART BOARDS, BUT WHEN THEY BREAK DOWN, THEY HAVE TO BE CREATIVE AND FIND MONEY TO FIX THEM. SOMETIMES ROBBING PETER TO PAY PAUL. THE IPHONE YOU HAD YESTERDAY WITH IS OUTDATED WITHIN SIX MONTHS. THAT TECHNOLOGY CHANGES EVERY DAY. WE NEED TO KEEP THESE CHILDREN UPDATED TO THOSE CHANGES SO THEY CAN BE PRODUCTIVE MEMBERS OF SOCIETY. WE DO NOT NEED ALL THE PRETTY AND ALL THAT STUFF. WE WANT WHAT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE OUR CHILDREN ARE GETTING THE BEST EDUCATION THEY CAN POSSIBLY HAVE HEARD MARGARET: THAT IS WHAT THEY SAY HELPS CHILDREN GOBBLE UP A GOOD LOOK
