12-year-old’s goal to assistance needy kids by school-supply drive

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For 12-year-old Bonnie Nygard, assisting others is a primary concern. 

The New Brighton proprietor is a youth cadette in her Girl Scout couple located in Manhattan, where she goes to propagandize during a Institute for Collaborative Education.

To acquire a Girl Scout Silver Award, Bonnie had to devise a project, come adult with a suspicion on her own, see if a plan was something that was indispensable and pronounce with adults to get it approved.

Then a suspicion came: She suspicion about students who do not have entrance to propagandize reserve during a year.

“I’ve been a child in a exam who didn’t have a pencil, a disproportion is all we had to do was ask my relatives to buy me more,” Bonnie stated.

According to the young Scout, a plan — Supplies for Success —  is critical since it focuses on a needs of students mid-year, when reserve are using low.

“It might seem like a tiny thing, but that can extent their ability to attain in school,” Bonnie said. “It creates a turn of highlight and stress that can supplement to a hurdles these students are already facing.”

Bonnie’s donated propagandize reserve will go to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church’s food cupboard in Stapleton.

It is her wish that relatives interlude by can collect one or dual propagandize reserve per child, per week.

“My idea is to collect adequate reserve that kids can take one to dual equipment each week for a month,” Bonnie said. “An object can be something like a cover or binder, or a container of pencils. we wish to offer a far-reaching accumulation of reserve so that kids have a choice.”

The seventh-grader started collecting reserve on Jan. 10 and spoke to other Girl Scout troops, her brother’s Boy Scout couple and to parishioners during her church, Christ Church in New Brighton, to inspire others to assistance donate.

“Some people are donating money for supplies,” pronounced Bonnie’s mom, Lisa Nygard. “We are articulate to Girl Scouts to see if they can set adult a concession box. Anyone can set one adult during propagandize or church.”
